Over years of kicking, the factory kickstart idler gear bushing takes a beating. Excess slop in the idler gear can cause sloppy Kickstarter engagement, premature gear tooth wear, and stress on the right-hand crankcase.
This replacement bushing is designed to press directly into your stock KX500 kickstart idler gear, bringing tolerances back to spec and restoring crisp, reliable starting engagement.

Builder’s Tip: When splitting cases or servicing the clutch side on a KX500 rebuild, always inspect the kickstart idler gear for side-to-side wobble on its shaft. A worn bushing allows the gear to tilt under load, which accelerates wear on the gear teeth and can eventually damage the countershaft and cases. Press out the worn factory unit, press this replacement in clean, and lubricate with fresh two-stroke transmission oil during assembly for smooth operation.
